Deerings is a team where every member is important. While one team member's performance may have little immediate effect and another's performance is felt immediately, all are important. Nursing is obviously the largest department, with Registered Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Certified Medication Aides, Certified Nursing Assistants and Restorative Aides. From assessment and care planning to administering medications as prescribed, feeding, bathing, and a million other tasks this department is crucial to meeting our resident's needs

The Dietary department prepares nourishing well-balanced meals tailored to our Resident's needs and preferences. We strive to serve meals each resident enjoys and finds attractive. Each resident's weight is monitored at least monthly at weekly team meetings to check the progress and necessary interventions for any resident who has any weight change or skin breakdown issues

Housekeeping & Laundry services are available seven days a week. Housekeepers are here 6 am to 2 pm and our laundry services operates 4:40 am - 11:30 pm.

The Activities Department focuses on Therapeutic Activities customized to individual interest: including hobbies, crafts, music, journaling and reading (books and on tape). Artwork is also introduced or re-introduced to enhance and improve the quality of life for any individual regardless of their physical, emotional, or social disabilities. Utilizing art, drama, music and creative writing techniques, customized to an individual's abilities, offers those willing to try, spiritual enlightenment, physical involvement, social inclusion, and most of all, a sense of accomplishment in a new or familiar medium of self expression. Additionally, we offer recreational horseback riding twice weekly and now have a woodworking shop and rifle range available for resident use.

The Social Services Department coordinates community resources to help meet resident's needs as well as providing one on one psycho/social intervention. Helping residents deal with losses, cope with the Medicaid maze, emotion management, and general problem solving are all parts of the social workers' venue. In addition, Deerings has a family support group that meets monthly. Families help each other deal with the guilt and stress that comes with admitting someone to the nursing home.

The Rehabilitation Department provides Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Hippo-therapy. Hippo/therapy deals with the use of muscles related to the rhythm involved in riding a horse. While the strengths of our rehabilitation program lie in physical and occupational therapy, we are proud to be the only Texas nursing facility involved in hippo/therapy.
